DESCRIPTION:Let’s celebrate native trees this fall! In honor of Texas Arbor Day\, officially observed on the first Friday of November\, Sherman Parks & Recreation is partnering with local experts to host a casual nature and tree-centered educational event for our community. All ages welcome. \nThough much of the nation celebrates Arbor Day in April\, our Texas trees tend to prefer late autumn plantings. The cooler weather makes putting down roots easier\, and it’s the perfect time to get settled before the heat and potential drought of the following summer. \nThis holiday allows us to look forward to the future\, one that we hope will be full of trees that provide not only beauty and shade\, but fresh air\, medicinal ingredients\, erosion control\, flood prevention\, habitat for native wildlife\, and of course\, opportunities for outdoor recreation. At Arbor Day Festival\, attendees will have the chance to meet with local experts from the Bluestem Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist\, Grayson County Texas Master Gardeners\, and others to learn how best to protect our environment and ensure this future. Discover more about tree care\, biodiversity\, composting methods\, and the various elements of our ecosystem that contribute to maintaining an environment for humans and trees to flourish.
